Pics. The root of the word octagon is 'octo' which means 'eight'. Each triangle apex = 360 degrees divided the distance across the flats of the octagon and the width of the sides always have the same ratio but the constant between them has to be worked out.

You can see that an octagon has eight angles (because it has eight sides). All corners added together equal 1080°. An equiangular octagon has four sides of length 1 and four sides of length , arranged so that no two consecutive sides have the same length. It is a regular quadrilateral with four equal sides and four 90° angles.
